The Deerlick Group and Stephen's Quintet
The Deerlick Group and Stephen's Quintet. NGC 7331, foreground, is the brightest galaxy in the Deerlick Group. Stephen's Quintet is the faint group of galaxies at the upper right. A compact group of four galaxies, only three are visible in the picture. The distant (estimated at 300 million light years) interacting galaxies need more time to bring out the small, faint details. Taken at Deerlick Astronomy Village during the 2010 Peach State Star Gaze. Fourteen frames of 10 minutes each using a 6 inch Ritchey Chretien with an f/6.3 focal reducer and a modified DSLR.
