Welcome to "Project Galileo"

This section of Steve's Virtual Planet is devoted to a year long research activity to discover more about the Scientific Revolution.
"Project Galileo" was the working title for a two part planetarium show that will run at Fernbank Science Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Part one of the show is called "Galileo's Universe - The New Astronomy" and will run from March 5 to May 16, 2009. Part two of Galileo's Universe will run in the Fall of 2009.

You can find out more about Fernbank at the link below.

The other product of the research is a slide show presentation based on the content of both planetarium shows. This site will host that slide show sometime in Spring 2009.

This project is intended to contribute to the overall effort around the world for The International Year of Astronomy 2009. It's a wonderful opportunity for people of all walks of life to learn more about our universe as it is now and as it was viewed and described by Galileo and his contemporaries.

There is so much to enjoy when we study the time known as the Scientific Revolution, especially the contributions to science made by the astronomer and philosopher Galileo Galilei. Enjoy the journey!

Watch this space for more material to be added over the coming months.
