Today we had a clear sun again and a beautiful prominence at the SE limb. It was 5 1/2 times as high as Earth and at least 10 times as wide. I decided to make a 1 hour animation with an image every 60 seconds. Here the animation repeated three times. Click on the image to link to the movie animation and wait for the movie to be loaded. It’s worth the wait time!!.

A very interesting Sun today with a very large prominence at the SE limb and a number of very nice filaments and seven active regions. This was a treat to see. So I decided to image a 1 hour animation of the prominence and I had to twist my arm to stop because of other things that needed to be done. Here the full disk images and look in the next blog for the animation.

A very nice eruptive prominence today at the SE limb. In addition we have 8 named active regions however, so far only one C class flare today. A very nice sun to observe with many smaller and fainter prominences around the disk.

Clear Skies again today. Some very nice filaments, a nice rotating prominance, and another hedge row at the eastern limb. Today a full disk image and two closeups. One from the Eastern limb, the second showing 1575, 76, 77, and 78.

Clear Skies today with low activity. Just one C and two B class flares so far and very little in terms of prominences. The active regions look cool on the surface. Today a full disk image and a close up of the 3 named active regions 1575,76 and 77.

Yesterday I was busy all day with outreach at Stone Mountain Middle and could not slip in capturing an image. This morning it was clear Skies and made these images. Nice activie regions with a few to turn to the backside of the sun in the next day or so.

On September 12th, I presented ”Imaging the Unusual” at the Mohawk Valley Astronomical Society’s monthly meeting in Kirkland NY. A great group of people interested in Astronomy. Last year I did visit their meeting at Colgate University, and this year it was a great pleasure to be able to make a presentation to the group. Here a few images of the session.

While visiting my wife’s relatives up north, I had a chance to do some solar observing and imaging with some friends I have known for almost 40 years. I used to work with Carol and Chuck Higgins when I was still living in Upstate New York. Carol is the current President of the Mohawk Valley Astronomical Society and Chuck is the treasurer. It was great to spend this time on 9/11 with them, and in the process make another image of the Sun. Thanks Carol and Chuck for spending the time with me and share this great hobby of ours and also to drive me around to see their observatories.
