Yesterday it rained so today was the first day where I had a chance to image the sun again in a few weeks. Five active regions with a number of C and B class flares mostly in 1575. Also a few small proms today, overall activity is not high today. Here the full disk images from today.

On September 12th, I presented ”Imaging the Unusual” at the Mohawk Valley Astronomical Society’s monthly meeting in Kirkland NY. A great group of people interested in Astronomy. Last year I did visit their meeting at Colgate University, and this year it was a great pleasure to be able to make a presentation to the group. Here a few images of the session.

While visiting my wife’s relatives up north, I had a chance to do some solar observing and imaging with some friends I have known for almost 40 years. I used to work with Carol and Chuck Higgins when I was still living in Upstate New York. Carol is the current President of the Mohawk Valley Astronomical Society and Chuck is the treasurer. It was great to spend this time on 9/11 with them, and in the process make another image of the Sun. Thanks Carol and Chuck for spending the time with me and share this great hobby of ours and also to drive me around to see their observatories.

A quiet sun today with a nice display of prominences at the SE limb. Only one small flare since midnight. Wonder what tomorrow holds in store for us when we go to East Newton Elementary School

Cloudy skies on the 21st, but I was able to catch a picture of the sun through some clouds. Not much activity but still some nice features visible.

Broken skies today but managed to get a few images, however, through thin clouds. AR1548 was active yesterday, but today it only showed two C-class flares so far. Today a full disk image with AR1543,46,47,48, and 49, and a closeup of the last three.

A similar Sun today as yesterday. But new activity is emerging. A new Active Region is emerging at 18N88E and had several flares today up to an M2.4 which started flaring just when I finished my imaging and was packing away my equipment. Today’s images in H-alpha and Calcium-K

Yesterday we started a new Carington rotation 2127. The previous CR2126 started calm with 2 Active regions, but than intensified in the middle of the rotation cycle and ended relatively calm again. So today we have a calm sun with AR1543 showing some pretty but little activity and a nice prominence at the NW rim, and a few nice curved filaments as well at the SE quadrant and close to AR1542.

The remnant of the large filament of a week ago has now reached the western limb of the sun and displays itself as a very nice prominence. Active region 1543 has become a very nice structure, and the bridge has formed very nicely. A very nice sun to observe today.
