Summer Camp at Charlie Elliott – Call for Participation -2 Days

1 July, 2008 (11:59) | Events | By: tramakers

Just a reminder, CEWC Summer Camp is not too far away. This year we have been asked to give classroom presentations, and follow up with observing at the field for two days:  Wednesday July 16, and July 23.

Classroom presentation is scheduled in the Visitors Center, from 6:45 until 8:15 pm, then on to the
field for some spectacular views of the heavens from 8:45 until 10:00ish. Let’s hope the weather is as cooperative as last year, so and we can put on a good show for the youngsters.  Thanks to Stephen we also will be able let the kids take a look at the sun.  See below for details.

Let me know if anyone is interested in assisting either in the classroom setting, or with telescopes on the field. Jon will do his powerpoint presentation on the solar system, and we will show the Phoenix movie/presentation shown at the last meeting. Clevis may make his Cassini movie available in case the weather does not cooperate, and we need to spend more time inside.

Last year, Clevis and Jon teamed up for the presentation inside, and we had several scopes out on the field. As the campers won’t be able to stay out too late, the more time at the eyepiece, the better. The kids were fantastic last year, as I’m sure they’ll be again this year. So drag out those scopes and join the fun.

Because Stephen Ramsden cannot make it those nights, Stephen will be joining the groups on both days at 11:30am for a 30 to 45 minute view of the Sun.  Thanks so much StePHen!!!

Send me an email if you can particiate and if you will be bringing your scope.  Let’s show CEWC that we do appreciate it very much that the chapter can use their facilities and the field.

Thanks and Clear Skies
