Still trying to repair the original AC drive corrector…we”ve isolated the problem.  seems that one of the transformers was the cause of the wisps of smoke….and the smell!

Now if anyone could guess as to the current output of the transformer????? I guess it must be putting out some amount of 110 volt at some amp rating, but as I’m no wiz with electricity, I haven’t a clue as to what I might need to replace the original.

No luck looking for info on the web as yet.  we think the scope was purchased new in “72 or “73 but that’s about as much as I know.

Next step is to rig up some digital encoders to give a sort of “push to” effect….I need something to get me in the ball park….it’s a nice bright view, but since I come from a computerized scope background, my familiarity with the night sky is, shall we say, lacking!  I got a great deal on some previously owned encoders and controller for an old Meade fork mount, so I’ll need to create some way to attach the encoders.  The stock bits were not meant for 2″ solid shafts, so I plan on rigging up some type of belt/disk arrangement, and see if she flies.

I’ll keep y’all posted.

Now for some steady skies!
